The Solas Cancer Support Centre has been the very grateful beneficiaries of expert professional support from Mary Jean, in the delivery of beauty therapy workshops for women who have experienced cancer related treatments. The objective of these initiatives is to enhance every participant’s sense of self …… their esteem, their confidence, their social engagement, and there overall wellbeing. Mary Jean exercises such skill in the delivery of her guidance and advice, demonstrates profound sensitivity to the patients in their experience, and inspires confidence in the manner in which she draws from her learning through Oncology Aesthetics. Her passion for excellence and adherence to the best practice models, as outlined by Oncology Aesthetics, underpins that is the Solas Cancer Support centre in achieving the best outcome for its clients.

In my 35 years as a beauty therapist OTI is by far one of the best trainings I have ever had the
privilege of upskilling in. It is an absolute pleasure to have the knowledge and understanding to safely modify all treatments in the salon for anyone currently going through or previously having been through cancer treatment. Human touch is so important for wellness so to be able to offer a customised facial treatment for compromised skin containing safe ingredients made possible by the amazing work of the Repechage Skincare company. A luxury paraffin hand treatment or even safely framing eyebrows after cancer treatment is an absolute joy to be able to offer. All of these treatments contribute to a clients continued wellbeing.  I firmly believe this training should be incorporated into and form part of the beauty therapy college curriculum and hairdressing apprenticeship training programs. I am very proud to be trained in Oncology Aesthetics and delighted to offer this service to my clients in my salon in Dungarvan. I have seen first hand the benefits to my clients and the feedback from their family and friends is testament. I am also extremely honoured and privileged to hold the title of Oncology Salon of the year 2024 for all of Ireland. Míle Buiochás to Louise for having the foresight in bringing this fantastic training to the Irish hair and beauty industry.

My name is Siobhan Lonergan. June 2023 I had emergency surgery to stop a bleed on the
brain and during the lifesaving surgery a glioblastoma tumour was detected. I have had
radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment subsequently. I attended Mary Jeans beauty
salon where I received bespoke treatment as a result of her Oncology Aesthetic
Qualifications. I had lost my hair and required scalp treatment to mitigate itchiness, flakiness
and discomfort. Mary Jean was compassionate and understood my skin concerns. She is
highly skilled and service oriented and gave great guidance about proper hair and skin care.
Her problem solving skills have proven invaluable and have boosted my morale to expose
my head. Mary Jean has an outgoing and friendly personality and her salon is a relaxing and
stress free environment. I will be forever grateful for her support and kindness. She has
enhanced my life.

When my mother, Eileen, was undergoing chemotherapy she was delighted to find out that
she could still enjoy her facials. Her cancer treatment was tough but she found the OTI
facials comforting and soothing. As a family we were delighted to see Eileen enjoy these
experiences and see the positive impact it had on her wellbeing. The chemo changed and
limited so much for her but her facials restored some normality for her and gave her back a
sense of herself. We are so lucky that Mary Jean provides this wonderful service in our local
town.

Knowing that my beautician Mary Jean Timmins had trained in Oncology Aesthetics was just
amazing. The first time lying on the treatment bed (after being told not to have facials when I
had finished my chemotherapy and radiotherapy was so disappointing) the excitement was
unreal to be able to have a facial again. My cancer journey wasn't easy and it took over my
life so being able to start having facials again was brilliant. It gave me the comfort to relax
and take time for me in an environment that is safe to my needs and would not have a
negative impact on my body. The time and dedication that Mary Jean underwent to provide
this service to me and others is just phenomenal.

Two years ago, I trained in Oncology Aesthetics. It is still the most amazing course I have
ever done. I've known Louise O Loughlin for 20 years through the amazing Repêchage Brand. Louise introduced OTI training to me and that along with the Repechage skincare brand married perfectly and allowed me to treat both clients going through cancer treatment and cancer survivors.

Between Louise O Loughlin and Morag Curran I have learned so much more and for that
I’m forever grateful. I'm thrilled to add this as extra to my salon treatment list which has meant more to me than any amount of money could ever do.
I'm doing it for the cancer patients who are already going through so much and to see how
this lifts them and the smile on their face after is the most unbelievable feeling.

I think everyone who has anything to do with Oncology patients should do this course.
I cannot recommend this enough.
